Default Glove box hinge broke

I went to pull out the ol' GPS out of the glove box today and the hinge broke. It closes fine so it's not a completely eye-sore, but what the heck??? So I googled around and found that several people have had the problem and it appears to be a sticky hinge.

My question is... Where can I get one for cheap? I don't want to pay the $300 or so that the dealer charges. It may or may not be on warranty, but the nearest Audi dealer is a couple hours away, so to drive up there just to find out that it is/isn't on warranty is going to suck and I'd prefer just to buy it and install it.

Also... While we're on it... The cover to the rear ashtray broke a while back too. It seems the interior molding can't withstand much... I don't even know how that broke either. Any help on that piece either?

If anyone has these pieces on hand, maybe a parting out B7, can you shoot me a message? I'll buy 'em off of you.

Check, I think there was a TSB on the glovebox door because some of them did not open or close correctly and broke. I think the problem was that some of doors were opening or closing to slowly, and if forced would break.

Yeah the hinge is broken where it connects to the door. Look closely and you can see where it is broken at the end of the door where the hinge is. You can buy the door by itself like the poster above mentioned, you just need to swap the handle and lock over to the new door. When removing the lock from the old door, make sure the KEY is currently inside the lock cylinder or all the tumblers might fall out.

It depends on where it breaks, it typically needs the door, not the whole glove box. Sometimes you can just replace the hinge if that breaks.

My dealer replaced it under warranty. Says that there's a brake that ends up getting sticky and placing a lot of pressure on the hinge. Known problem.

I'm taking it to the dealer in a couple weeks... The nearest dealer is a couple hours away so it's somewhat of a pain. They want to take it a part and see where the problem is, but said I still have a CPO warranty, so that's good. Thanks for all the advice, I'm taking it to the man!

Thats how we do it too.... but we have had customer bring their cars in from out of state and they said their local dealer doesn't cover them.

which is odd...

the hinge is attached to the door... the brake siezes and cause the hinge to bind and break.

the door is not cover under warranty, but the brake is.... and if a warranty part cause a non warranty part to break... they should both be covered.
