Default Ignition Coil Inspection/Replacement Recall

Hey guys-

I received a letter in the mail from Audi in regards to their ignition coils possibly malfunctioning, and a recall replacement if they do. I understand what the ignition coils do, but how exactly can you tell if the coils are malfunction (i.e.- what are the symptoms)?

Also, as you can see in the sig, I am chipped with APR. If the coils malfunction, would the APR chip void the warranty and prevent me from participating in the recall?

Thanks for any insight.

I also have APR, and I've had one coil replaced under the recall. Failure symptoms are shuddering in the car, accompanied by a flashing check engine light.

Just had Shuddering bad on my stage 2 GTI 3 weeks ago and had one replaced. Now today i'm getting a misfire only under load, drives fine slow or at cruise speed. Gotta go tomorrow for another coil. Damn.

As it turns out, a malfunctioning coil was the prognosis on my A4. I had the car towed to the dealership (for free from Audi roadside, quite nice) and they replaced the coil under warranty. No questions asked about the chip.

This might be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyways. Once a coil malfunctions and is replaced, is there a higher probability that another one will go out at some point? It sounds like this might be true since 2wdblazer had a similar situation?

I would say it was totally coincidental. I'm betting the chip did not help with the defective coils. 2 in a month since my stage 2 flash.

If you are on the recall list they should change them all. I argued today on my GTI that I did not want to keep coming back even though my car was not on the recall list. They changed the other 3 today.

I am bringing my stage 2+ a4 there on Friday. Should I be worried about the mods? I dont have any warranty but they should still replace it for free, correct?

Call them and see if you are on the recall list. They have been relasing the list in slow stages. You should be on it now. Get than all done. No crap about onlty doing the faulty one being replaced.

They replaced all 4 of them, not just the messed up one and no questions asked. I am glad Kris told me they had the recall. I wasnt aware of it and was gonna waste my money. Are there any other recalls that I am not aware of?
