Default Lights on dash stay on....Help!

I am new to the forum and need your help urgently!

After turning off the A4 this afternoon the two groups of lights on the dash which show the time and date on the left side and the trip odometer and the odometer on the right side went off as they should, then came back on after I had exited the car and the dome lights had gone off. then they stayed on!

I have pushed every button I can find and tried everything in the manual but as of this evening they are still staying on after the car is shut off.

Does anyone here have and idea short of pulling the fuse for the instrument panel altogether??

Thanks!

hmm.....well that has me stumped unless you have the halo switch on but i dunno why that would turn on the dash tho.....the halo switch is right next to the daytime running lights switch and basically leaves your car lights and dome lights on for about 30 seconds after you exit the car to give you a 'halo' of light to protect you or make you feel safer leaving the car at night....if it stays on an will not go off no matter what then i really don;t know what could cause that other then faulty wiring .....have you had any service done to it recently or a sound system installed ....i'm sorry man i don;t have a solid answer for you

Well, I got up this AM and checked the car....the lights in question were off!

Drove the car around town, stopped it twice, twice exited the car....dome lights stayed on the required time and the odometer and time/date lights stayed on, then went off with the dome light as they should!

I noticed when I get out of the car there is a whirring sound underneath.....that sound DID NOT occur while I was having this lighting problem....that must be a sensor that was malfunctioning.

These A4s must be notorious for electrical sensor problems....I have noticed weird messages on the dash (oil pressure low, mph speed too fast, etc.) when there are temperature extremes. The car sat since Wednesday and the temps went from the high 60s to the low 80s and that is when the light problem happens. The other oddities were in cold weather.

I did, by accident, drop a dime in the through the console...but that was last week and a short circuit by that could not be the cause as I drove it over lots of bumps last nite, got out of the car and the liths on the dash malfunctioned. Then they went off when the temperature outside dropped into the 60's last nite.

What are your thoughts on this??

personally I dont think its a problem more a time out thing as the interior light do that to give you time to excite at night but it wouldn't hurt to have it checked for fault codes

You sure the whirring sound isn't the turbos winding down? As for the messages, I'm with techbod...get the codes pulled to see what's going on. The error messages you have wouldn't come from the same sensor, so maybe its the display.

the whirlling sound you heard was your fan still going after you turned off your car.....it cools down your turbo much like a turbo timer does....and on hot days it will stay on for quite some time.....if you don;t belive me, drive your car hard for like 5-10 minutes then park and turn it off and open the hood, your fan will be running long after the car is off

ya the whirring sound is most like the far and not a malfunctioning sensor... stop by autozone and see if there are any codes that you can get and let us know
