Unhappy Is my B7 transmission ruined?

2006 A4 2.0T, 85K miles:

A radiator seal broke and forced coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. Had the radiator replaced by a reputable non-dealer shop ($500.00) and was directed to another shop for a transmission "flush".

After being in the shop for a few days he called to say he couldn't do it because it was the CVT transmission. Also said that he thought my transmission was shot (it's slipping) and that I should replace it, was wasting my money..

I found another shop who will "replace" the trans fluid for $150.00 but also "feels" that the transmission is finished.

My questions are:

Should I go for the replacement and see if the transmission will recover enough?

Is $150.00 reasonable, as in too low? Other shops ranged $400 to $1k because of the filter cost, oil cost, etc.

Of course, just paid the note off last week. Warranty out recently. Funds are tight due to work slow-down and dealership is ridiculous.

Have adored this car!

Many thanks for any thoughts on this.

Edit: I've maintained all required maintenance on the car and it had a major tune-up months before the break.

At this point, I'd probably have it evaluated at the dealership. It sounds like neither shop really knows anything about CVT transmissions and are just guessing at this point.

Hi KW, thank you for the response. Ya, that's probably what I will do. Have a great weekend!

Let us know how it turns out. Hopefully they can at least rebuild it if it's that far gone.
