Oil capacity error in manual
Has anyone else gotten their letter stating that the owners manual has the wrong oil capacity for your car's engine? Apparently the manual says that the 2.0t requres 4.5 quarts. The correction on the sheet of paper that you are to attach to the manual says that the correct capacity is 4.8 quarts. A third of a quart less makes an engine that is known use oil, just trigger the oil light that much quicker. Fortunately mine doesn't use oil. The 3.0 and the 3.2 also are wrong.
I got one--it looked like it was just a misprint originally. The original stated 4.5 quarts/4.5 liters which isn't correct. 4.5 liters is 4.75 (or 4.8) quarts (the new capacity). I always check the dipstick about three times while and after I fill an engine, anyway.
If you use the OM for reference then you always know where to start. For the last 45+ years I have been working on cars I usually in this case will put in 4 qts. and start it up to fill the filter and get a little engine temp. Shut it down and wait a few minutes . Check it and fill it to the line. The only car this doesn't work with is my old Ferrari. You need to check the oil within 10-15 sec. and make sure it's in the safe area.
