oil consumption out of line?
'08 2.0T AWD, 50K; seems the last 10K the "low oil level" light is consistently coming on right around 5K between oil changes. Oil changed at 10K per dealer spec, but finding I have to throw 1/2-3/4 qt. in until next oil change.
Here comes the "is this normal?" question. I know the 2.0T's have a tendency to gobble oil, my question is more like "why?". I do less city driving and more long haul driving, '05 didn't seem to have this problem, and I put 125K on that.
Ideas?

It could be the PCV valve. Oil consumption increases when they go bad. The cars performance is also affected. Another sign is oil pooling around the filler cap. There are many other things that could be the cause too. My 06 has 51,000 miles and does not use a drop, which is unusual for the 2.0t.
I have a 2008 2L turbo with 25k miles. I do mostly city driving. I too have had to add a quart of oil between the oil changes which surprised me. I just had my pcv valve replaced under warranty so I will see if this part replacement makes any diff in the oil consumption.

Called the dealer this week to discuss; the service advisor mentioned that this is not unusual, said it is a combination of direct injection, turbo and high compression ratio. As a mechanical engineer, I don't buy into that 100% but I have had other unusual experiences with high oil consumption so I'll reserve any opinions for now.
The service advisor did mention that "stuck crankcase valves" have proven to cause oil consumption and suggested that I bring it in for a look-see. Will do next week, report back here if I learn anything of value.
The power delivery does appear a bit uneven, as if the engine is more eager or easy-reving sometimes more than at other times. I'll mention this, too, when I take it in.
