Default Reliability Question

Hello,

I am about to buy a 2006 A4 2.0T Quattro S-Line 6MT. Thus far I had nothing but horrible experience with German cars. Everything went wrong that could possibly go wrong with my e46 M3, like SMG transmission failure, multiple engine issues, and the worse of all subframe crack. I have heard that A4s are a lot more reliable but still do have their issues. I did some research on this subforum but I couldn't find anything definite regarding reliability. My questions are can an A4 last till 200k? with good maintenance? What are the things that have the highest probability of malfunctioning? and what are the things I should careful examine and inspect before buying one?
Once again I am sorry if this topic has been brought here redundantly but I tried to search and did not come up with much. Thanks

IMO European cars, in general, are not very reliable, especially once they are past the factory warranty. This has been my experience after owning seven German cars, two French, and one Italian. They are OK if you can do your own repairs, although parts are much more expensive than American or Japanese.

All cars have their problems...... Euro cars just tend to be very expensive when out of warranty

It's kinda hit or miss. You can get a German car that causes little to no trouble like my A4, or you can get a German car like my old Jetta that was in the shop frequently.

take care of your Audi, it will take care of you. Before i got my b7 i had a 2000 b5, last year i creamed a deer which caused my insurance company to write me a $6500 check and total my car that had looked to be in near-showroom quality... i drove the car away from that dear carcass, and for 13months afterwards until i sold it for 4k to my buddy's dad.
all i replaced was my hood and you could barely tell it had ever taken damage.
i did my own routine maintenance and never once had an issue with it.

when i sold it, it never appeared to have nay sludging issues(which was very common) and was running on a stock 11-12year old clutch.

I have owned my A4 since I bought it new in '07. The only problems I have had with it were, 2 coil packs (replaced warranty/recall) and 1 PCV (warranty). Other than that it has been rock solid. Of course I always do my scheduled maint on time and only at Audi. Like NHolzshuh said, take care of your Audi (or any other car really) and it will take care of you. Since you are buying used, make sure the service records are complete and take for a test drive!

I would never buy a used car if it has been tuned in any way. This is sure signs of abuse..

Good luck!
