Default shut off, now no start

I have an 06 3.2L A4 with 113k, had it since 95k and love the car! It was always dealer serviced and is in excellent condition, nicer than most low mile cars I see. Yesterday the car gave me a misfire, then cleared right up, then more random misfires, finally just dropped a cylinder altogether, flashed me a check engine light and traction control light simultainiously. this was all within 2 miles. Just as fast as it acted up, it was gone, car ran perfect for the next 5 miles to our destination, check engine light was off. Came out, headed for home, car ran perfect for 10 minutes, then complete loss of a cylinder again for about 2 or 3 miles. I babied the car to get home not wanting to hurt a converter, about a mile from home, boom, cleared up. I have access to Vag-Com at work so I was anxious to see what was acting up. Drove the car to work this morning, perfect 10 miles to work no problems. Cylinder 3 misfire was the only code. I pulled all of the coil packs to check for moisture etc, all looked good, reassembled with light coating of dielectric grease, drove it home all great. took my daughter to her friends house 5 miles away, when I pulled in her drive, misfire started again, backed out headed for home, car shut off now wont start! Towed it to my work, plugged in and still the only code is the # 3 misfire. Checked for fuel pressure at the tank, all good. Sprayed ether in the throttle body, got a slight kick but no start. Do these 3.2 cars have a high pressure fuel pump driven from the cam like a 2.0t that could have died? could that have been causing my misfire? Every time I have ever had a misfire in other cars with coil packs its almost always a coil pack. Why does the traction control light flash with the check engine light? I have lots of mechanical experience, but not much late model VW/Audi, mostly older stuff.

I don't know if it's the same with the 3.2, but there was a coilpack recall on the 2.0T. One of mine went bad, but it would generally run fine under low load, and only have trouble under high load.

Almost every Audi / VW made in the 2000's were part of the recall. Did you get your new coils? I bet the dealer is waiting for you. I had them done on both of my cars. I lost 2 on my VW in 2 weeks. Back then they would replace as needed, then they went to replacing all at the same time.

as far as I know the B7 cars are not covered under a coil pack recall.......yet.
An update on the running problem. I took a deep breath and looked at the problem again and noticed the #3 misfire code was a short to positive, which made me think fuses. I ripped into it and found the fuses tucked in next to the ecm and sure enough there was a blown fuse. Replaced it, the car starts and runs, but still a misfire, #3 of course, switched the coil to #2 cylinder and the miss followed to #2, replaced that coil, problem solved! A little determination and $30 fixed it right up

Save your reciept and take it to the dealer. Ask for reimbursement. Go to the dealer for your recall. B7's are on it. I did my Audi 6 months ago and it ran perfect before I did the recall. I just did it to be on the safe side. Get them done buddy. Ask to keep the old parts and then you will have a brand new spare.
