I got the impression from my dealer that they should be changed together. I guess there must be parts in common between them that get removed. There was a story out on one of the forums that mentioned a timing belt failure due to coolant from the pump leaking all over it and damaging it. I just can't remember where I saw it.

Default Dealer Dervice lies

As I thought. I was told by the service writer when I made the appointment to have the water pump replaced that the belt is not covered and I could bring a new timing belt and they would put it on when they were doing the pump. Then I get a call from the dealer the day the car is there saying they have to charge labor to put it on. I said I was told to bring it and they would put the new one on instead of the old one back. I was told "oh you do not have to remove the timing belt to change the water pump. So I told them leave it alone then. When I got the car back the service ticket states they removed the timing belt cover, timing belt reset timing cam and reinstaled belt.

I am going to contact Audi of America to report the lies and poor customer service at AUDI OF HUNTINGTON
