I just got delivery of my B7 yesterday and I have a major beef with it (no, I didn't drive it before I bought it, stupid me - it was a over the phone deal as it was in a different province). At idle in gear, the car has quite a bit of vibration / steering wheel shakes etc. It was much like the 1.8T that I have driven before.

I have driven the 09 A4 - and that was smooth as silk.

I'm just trying to figure out if I should get it looked at. In neutral/park, the car is great though...

check the air filter. the steering wheel shouldn't shake that much.

if everything checks out ok, ride a chopper and then get back into the audi and the small vibration at idle will be unnoticable.

i had a very souped up mustang and it loped so much at idle the car shook. it was bad azz.

 

There seem to be a lot of threads about this if you look around. Different people describe it different ways. Apparently some small vibration is normal. I have a 2.0 manual and I have none in my wheel or shifter. I guess maybe it is associated with the automatic transmissions. Maybe reading others descriptions will help you figure out if something is wrong or not. Good luck.

 

could just be where the idle sits....mufflers can only work during a certain range and if you go above (high rpms) the muffler won;t do much, same if u go very low the muffler will not do its job and that alone could cause vibration through the car

 

Mine vibrates in park and when i'm at stop lights. Once i go it stops. It's not too rough though. I guess from what other people have been saying is that the 4 cylinder shakes a bit more than the 6 cylinder version.

 

My wife's car acts very similar. Sounds like they used the Pather Tank as a model for the engine design. Tons of chains and whirring sounds. Car vibrates pretty bad and is worse when you put it in gear at idle. The steering wheel shakes, the seat vibrates like a massage chair in the mall and the dashboard rattles like a 62 dodge. Of course Fred Baker Audi won't do anything about it, the service manager claims they are all like this but refused to put another one next to it for a side by side test. When someone brought the exact same model in it was noticeably quieter and had NO vibration. Service Mngr said that's because it wasn't up to temp ?????? When I asked if they would let it get up to temp to see what it sounded like he shut it off. I am seriously wanting to put a 5 gallon can of gas inside this car and throw a match in it. I used to love it but I can not stand to be in it now because it is so loud and shakes so much.

Anybody have any ideas? I am going to try a different dealer but there sure aren't a lot of choices in Northern Ohio.

Car is a 2006 & this started at 22K miles. Car now has 25K. 2.0L turbo

 

Lol, yeah, it shouldn't be that bad. Definitely try a different dealer... that one sounds like a jerk.

 

If your car is under warranty, do what I'm hoping I don't have to. This is from the Audiusa.com website if you click on the Contact Us link:
"If you currently own an Audi and have questions or concerns about your ownership experience, and would like to speak with a Customer CARE Advocate call 1-800-822-2834 (AUDI), Mon-Fri, 8 am to 8 pm, Eastern Time."

Call that number and tell them you are covered under Audi factory warranty and the dealership is blowing you off. At this point, from previous experiences, the dealership you took your car too should be getting a call from an Audi higher up who will tell them to get their ^&*^ straight and fix your car. Let us know if that works. It's worked for me in the past. The dealership answers to Audi headquarters. Even if you aren't covered under warranty, call that number and tell them something is wrong and the dealership won't acknowledge it. Watch and see what happens.

My girlfriend bought a 2007 A4 2.0T earlier today, 25,050 miles on the odo. Beautiful inside and out, so within 20 minutes of driving around town we noticed it jerks when taking off from a full stop within 0-10 mph. I'm going to create a seperate thread about the issue.
