2009 A4 3.2 Misfire Codes
Over the past 2 years I've brought my '09 A4, 3.2 back to dealer for the same problem (5 times to be exact). Would throw MIL with the same, 300, 303, 304 codes. Specific cylinder misfires and random cylinder misfires. I have VAG-COM so I would always print-out and bring to dealer so they know that I know. You would think by now they could have gotten it right, but not. They tell me they contacted Audi NA for latest settings but nothing seems to get it right. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with the 3.2 or am I just out there on my own. Car has no mods done to it, yet. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
Carbon buildup on the valves.... They have been working on ECM upgrades ever since the 3.2L came out in 2005.
Its not your dealers fault. Its Audi Engineering in Germany.
They need to scrape your valves clean. And perform the latest update which came out a few months ago.
I've haven't seen this issue with a 2009 yet. But the 3.2L is notorious for it and its the same engine, no changes.

Thanks for the info. Heard it was a 3.2 problem from a few years back, didn't think it still existed. 2 follow-up questions if you don't mind.
1. Is this doing engine harm or just a nuisance?
2. Could this cause the engine oil to appear to have a carbon color (blackish) to it it after only a couple thousand miles after oil change?
Was thinking of purchasing after lease was up, that's why i'm concerned. If the only concern would be the nuisance of the MIL, not a big deal as I'll reset.
Any thoughts? Thanks again.

Well. You need to keep in mind. A misfire by federal standard is described as a Catalyst Damaging Event.
So in theory whenever that MIL is flashing you are doing harm.
They only thing you can do personally is those fuel injection additives. If it only happens at cold start.... No your not really hurting too much because you normally run rich at cold start. The ECM update i believe just turns down the sensitivity of misfire detection during the cold start process
