Do B8 model still have problems with CVT tranny?
If you're referring to the issue where the car downshifts often when coming to a stop and sometimes quite hard... then I would say I experienced this every so often for the first 10k miles. I have not had this issue since then and I am now at 18k.
I've been told by my service manager and others on the board that it takes the car some time to adjust to your driving habits.

I have some problems with the CVT. My recommendation is to stay away from them. My car performs poorly from a stop. Sometimes the CVT just doesn't want to go. Seems like it needs more time to set the proper gear ratio. I notice it particularly when I stop quickly and try to start up immediately. The car simply won't do it. It lurches, clunks, and feels like it's going to either blow up or stall. Not good.
This car is only 2 and a half years old. If the problem never gets worse, I could live with it. But I'm afraid the CVT performance will degrade with age.
I am not an aggressive driver. I don't drive fast. I don't burn rubber. But sometimes I need to start quickly after I've stopped. My A4 won't do it.

I spoke with the service manager at Reeves Audi in Tampa about CVT problems and he said that older models did have some issues but with A4's made after 2007 they eliminated most of the CVT's short comings. He said the worst that you should encounter is a shuddering when starting from a dead stop. This shudder can't be eliminated and could become more pronounced as tme goes by, depending on how you drive. In the end it seems that most of the recent (post '07) A4 models with CVT are good and the minor (in most cases) shuddering isn't a sign of an overall tx weakness. Quattro with Tiptronic seems to be the way to go if you have that option and many of the aftermarket turbo and exhaust mods (see: APR) are designed for cars with that transmission and a manual tx. I have a '09 A4 B8 with a CVT and APR stage II; so far things are fine.
