Rev-limiter
When attempting to launch I've noticed that with the gear shift in neutral or the clutch fully depressed a 4k rev limiter kicks in which inhibits a proper launch with quattro. Does anybody know how to easily get around this or if there's another launch technique I could use?
I wouldn't think you would want to launch much past the 4,000 RPM mark anyhow. Torque tops out just above 4,000 RPM but horsepower does keep climbing for a couple thousand more. I would think trying to launch close to or much higher than 4,000 RPM would risk detonating your torque converter or clutch.
What exactly are you trying to do?

No i agree that 4K seems plenty its just that I'm new to manual and I hear that you should try launch as high as possible without wheelspin but because of the revlimiter and quattro Ive never experienced wheelspin thus not knowing the point that induces wheelspin; just making sure that reving any higher wouldn't give me much better of a launch. btw do you want to launch at the end of the torque curve or hp curve?

Just be sure not to glaze your clutch plates...kinda takes all the fun out of it.
Yeah I've noticed dropping the clutch just bogs down the engine getting me no where and that slipping the clutch works best but are you saying theoretically I would only need to rev to the low 2's to get the best launch and that 4k is too high cause that seems a bit low but I will definitely try next time. On another note, do you just use your right foot to also hold down the brake if the surface isn't perfectly smooth? I know some people suggest dropping the parking brake at the last second but that doesn't really work for me due to the delay in the electronic parking brake.
OK, there are a couple things here. If you just want the absolute fastest launch with no regard to the well being of your car, you may want to disable ESP, hold your revs as high as possible and simply drop the clutch... I am pretty sure ESP is notfully disabled so it should keep you from leaving half your car in the road way...at least for a few runs.
If you are wanting fast, but reproduceable, launches for something like bracket racing, I would use a lower RPM and roll into the throttle as things hook up.
If audi offers some sort of track day or performance driving program, it may be the best way to learn your technique.
Also, the guys in the B7 forums have a very similiar engine/trans setup, although a little less powerful, so I would post this same question over there...I am sure some of those guys have run thier cars on the ragged edge already.
