Default Warranty

My 2010 A4 is still under Warranty. Recently brought it in for a regularly scheduled service at ~30k miles. The service manager mentioned that I'd need new brake pads soon. Two weeks later the warning light came on on my dashboard (coincidence?). Whatever. My question is - Do I have to bring to a dealer to have the work done? Would I void the warranty if I brought it to an independent repair shop? Thanks.

If the pads are under warranty, let the dealer do it. If they are not, then anyone should be able to change them without worrying about the warranty for other parts.
