Default door handle swap possibilities

Hello everyone again. So I really don't like the door handle style of these cars. It looks like its the same design used in the early 80's volkswagens.

So is it possible to swap in a different style?

Here is the car in question...

The ones I prefer are these late volkswagen style....

If I have to though, is it possible to put these one instead?

well I've taken off the driver's handle (locking mechanism came unclipped) and found the problem with these handles.

It looks like the problem is with the door latch mechanism. Swapping over the locking part is very easy (just a phillips head screw). I just have to find a way to swap over the other part of this handle.

This is going to take a bit of research

I think I will do that. I'm going to wait until my check comes in and see what I can do. From the looks of it it should be really quite easy and besides, I need a project. I'll do a DIY on it as I go. Don't know how many people are interested but from what I've heard the stock door handes have a habit of breaking so maybe this can be another option instead of simply replacing them.

Hey, who know? An all chrome handle might look quite nice.

yes the stock handles are a bit ugly and do tend to brake in cold wether if not lubed regularly

I used the Volkswagen Chinese door handles On my Urq and I like them a lot.

Really? Do you have the central locking system? How did you get it to work properly with that?

Yes I have the central locking system but I have 1 actuator on my master door for the alarm system. And I just had to modify one of the rods that gos to the lock mechanism because the latch is lower on the door for the 4000 then the VW you might have to do the same. But as far as the central locking system I am sure you can make it work without the actuator just by modifying the rod abit.

Also the first door handles that you show require you to weld a new plate of metal in the door and then you still have to modify the linkage.I dont think you want to do that?

I would like something like those chrome ones but did suspect that those specific ones would not work. I have used those others ones before on my little rabbit and while I like them, I would prefer chrome. I'll take a walk through a junkyard and see if I can find any Audi handles that might do the trick.
