So I went autocrossing today. Did very very well actually. And that wasn't even taking into account that engine, suspension, and steering were all stock.

Problem is, after the second run, one (just one...I could hear it) ticked for about a minute until the oil cooled a bit. It did exactly the same thing after the fourth run.

On a daily basis, it does this for about 1 second every morning on initial startup.

I want to do several things and would like a little guidance.

Clean up the oil passages...by running cleaner in the oil just before the next oil change.

Oil change with a tad higher viscosity oil

and finally, swap out the oil pump for a new one that produces higher than stock oil pressure.


What do you think? Do you think I should swap out the hydraulic lifters while I'm at it? Right now the engine has 147,000 miles on it and runs perfectly. I would love to make it run much longer. Burns NO oil. Very nice amout of power...especially for not having a turbo.

 

Do you want to change your hyrdoulic lifters for solid lifters???

147k on you rlifters im sure you dont need a change, plus their self adjusting so you never have todo routine maintenan, other then change youir oil

 

No. No. I'm perfectly happy with keeping hydraulic lifters. I was just saying that I could pull the cam and swap the hydraulic lifters themselfs for new ones. In the off chance that I had managed to damage that one.

 

cleaner you can do since it's a non turbo .... lifters you can always change out when you do your timing belt ... and the oil should be 0W40 if i recall correctlly ... if you are really interested about the oil pm avant or kakarot they have done some heavy oil research

 

yep, I am using 0W-40.
I wrote an article on oil somewhere.
most of the time when you switch to lower viscocity and syntetic, lifters will not bother you.
