Idle Control Valve Question
I just got an Adi 1990 100 from a friend who just wabted it out of his way.. With a new fuel pump and battery the car started running after sitting parked since 2003. But it wouldnt idle right,so the mech narrowed the prob down to the air idle control valve. He took it out of line and plugged the hoses and got it to idle....thats where I am at now. (it quit idling, I have to keep my foot on the gass at lights)I took it home and was searching for an affordable replcement valve online...found some used ones supposedly in working order for 24.00....however.....I read on one of the posts here that you can clean these valves up with carb cleaner....would that be worth trying? What is success rate of it bouncing back. I also want to know it that valve would cause problems with air conditioning system. Right now my blower only works on medium speed.
Thanks

I don't think it will have anything to do with the a/c. However I am also having problems with the car idling correctly. Check for vacuum leaks in all the hoses, the intake boot, and maybe even the injector seals. You might try disconnecting the IACV which should put the car at high idle all the time. It is easy to clean and it never hurts to try.
clean the auxiliary air valve ( IACV ) check if its getting 12 volts when ignition is on, its not uncommon for this item to loose voltage connection and easily repaired by putting a switched live to the unit ( powered up when ignition on only ) then check all vacuum lines and air hoses,
I might be worth checking the cold start injector out

Is the IACC supposed to be powered constantly ? Right now I have it out of line....hoses plugged. No idle whatsoever. Dies when I let off gas pedal. Even after warmed up.
Ok I will check for 12 volts with ignition on. The car is at the detail shop now, will post later.
Thanks guys!

I have replaced the old IACC with a working one (I guess) Are hose clamps neeeded for this? Mine didnt have any. The car idles between 700 and 1800 rpm, the latter being too fast. I can quickly turn off the ignition and back on with the key while engine is running and idle will slow down to 700-800 and stay there until I shut it down and restart. Then have to do same thing to slow it down. Whats going on here? vacume leak maybe? Should I try hose clamps?
