Project Claudia: The story of a 91 CQ
There isn't much of a following for the older Audi here on AF but I thought I would copy/paste my thread from MG over here just if anyone wanted to see it.
I'm pretty bored here at work today so thought I would start a build thread. I don't have huge plans for the car right now the goal is to get it running. WARNING: I LIKE PICTURES!
Rewind to early 2011 I had been wanting a CQ for a long time. Bullshiting with a buddy from NY (frostyflakes) he tells me one of his buddies has a Minty CQ for sale for $2,500... I had been lookin for awhile for one and I liked the word minty so with out ever seeing the car but a few pics and taking the word for it I saved some money! A friend and I made the long road trip from Ohio to NY to pick it up in a snow storm!

The pics I got org. showing the car didn't match up 100% to the car when I got there but close enough.
This is how she looked when I got there.

Her body wasn't to bad, 1/4 panel had some half assed fiberglass on it and rockers jacked up from improper jacking! They started her up and she idled ok. So we exchanged money and that was that. We pulled out the drive for or road trip home I could put the pedal to the floor and my 0-60 was two minutes... The car has no power... I couldn't turn back now I spent a lot of money just to come out here! So after a while we finally got home.
I pulled the air filter and found this.

Well I did lots of little things to get her going again. She never ran 100% about half as fast as my A4. And still had issues. Here is a look at the coolant after flushing it...

Our Miata was down so we decided to try and Auto-X the CQ. Not a horrid car to Auto-X it's in HS which has a good PAX and since I had race slicks from the A4 they fit on the CQ! So with lots of grip we headed off to the track. Did well until one hot day the fans didn't kick on and the car over heated dumping coolant out. Well Thought it was the fan after trying to direct wire the fan to a battery. Didn't work so put a fan in from an MK1 golf and just ran it to a toggle. Turns out the wires were bad and the fan was good! It was a sensor went bad.

Well another day at Auto-X as that was all we were using this car for. I was giving it all she had and she gave out. The whole track was covered in a white cloud of smoke...

Once home it would run but idle up and rev on it's own it would spit out a white puff of smoke here and there so after talking with frosty and a few others decided it was the head gasket. So we are now up to Aug 2011
This being my 1st 5cyl and no manuals I was winging it! If it was attached to the head I was just taking it off!

Well I ran into an issue with the exhaust mani so frosty sent me his Bently and I got the head off. Didn't see any clear areas that looked bad and the gasket seemed ok. Had a few people come over and one says my block is bad... So I let the car sit and sit and sit... Well last week I decided it's time to get it running. I took the head to a performance shop where they pulled the cams and valve checked everything and decked the head and that was yesterday. Here is the car and the decked head. The current plans is to remove the block the take it into my basement to clean it up and see how it looks.

MPG!

No it's no laying in the grass it has a jack under it... :wtf:

Roller Skates!

Tiki Torch holder!

My babies

What I found when I found out the radio didn't work... Made for a long 7hr drive home from NY

Random shots of stickers which will be coming off once the car is running again. The only one I will keep for now is the 5cyl one.

That's enough for now lol

Well yesterday the plan was to pull the block. So I bought a new motor stand!

Everything went ok. Ran into some issues from the p.o. or before as some of the bolts/nuts seemed to be an after thought as random sizes were all over. As of now the block is disconnected from the trans all electrical off all not needed disconnect ex power steering and a/c. Looks like I might also do an a/c delete. And now from random pics...
Rachel did more work than both the guys behind her!

Pat likes pink drinks!

The garage was a skating rink after an unnoticed leak covered the garage floor in a wonderful oil and coolant mix... But when we walked outside in the rain it made awesome foot prints!!!

After four hours of work we called it night. The only thing holding it in still is the two motor mounts. If you know me in RL I work a stupid amount of hours usually 72hrs a week + So since we didn't get it out last night it looks like it will be sitting another two weeks before I will have time to go back out and work on it. So she is tucked back away waiting for another day.

And this post was pretty pointless since we really didn't get it out but figured I'd post anyways as I'm bored at work!

Well it was nice the other day so along with working on my newly aquired B5.5 Passat I pulled the block the rest of the way out of Claudia...

I got an awful idea this morning so I will see what pans out. Right now I still have no clue what I'm doing but my $$$ is going towards getting the passat running so I can have a decent DD
