Only when that is resolved, is it time to get things done (timing belt plus everything possible, FMIC), then VAGcom info and chip/tune.

Front end is clonking (suspect upper strut mounts?).

Still not done, because currently the dash looks like a christmas tree with all the lights blinking (no codes): ABS (likely module; standing by) Brakes, Airbag.

And the radio is (safety) locked out, the key fob remote does not open the doors (new batteries, and sender tested ok at Autozone) and the door handles (white) and the inside door panel look shabby (peeling) and need to be replaced.

THEN, it will be a really nice setup to drive (optically just ok, since paint is starting to show its age with scratches and stone chips).
1. radio $40 bucks.
http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...reo/Head_Unit/

2. I did b7 fob for my b6 but yours is probably different. ebay for new fob new key blank from artiway(is your key flat). Since your year has no immobilizer no need to go to dealer. Vag should recode for new remote. Not sure if applies to B5

Start Vag-Com
Choose [46 - Comfort System]
[Adaptation - 10]
Go to channel 021.
[Read]

* Choose the memory position you want the new key be matched on by entering it's number (e.g. "3" for memory positon 3).
[Test]

* Now press any button on the remote you want to match.
* The meas. block field above will change from Not Recogn. to Recognized.

[Save]

3. TB find someone local but should be 600 -800 job is similar to B6

4. I'll try to find you link to someone who re did their interior themselves as well as fix those peeling buttons and door grip on audizine.

5. airbag if igniter code

1. Radio: What Audio units fit (mechanically and electrically) in my A4 B5 (1998)? May be the easiest way

2. Key fob: the remote worked at Autozone tester. I will give VAGcom a try to see if it can relearn the fob

3. "TB find someone local but should be 600 -800 job is similar to B6": What do you mean? TB?

4. Have you found a link or can give me tips where to look for the interior arm rests?

5. Will read up on the link

Thanks.

here you go bud peeling interior fix

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...eeling+buttons

TB = timing belt. check local fourms for people who do them or in sig's. I've seen it for 250 bucks plus parts.

Doesn't ECS still have radio's for the B5 for $40? unfamiliar w/B5 interior

key fob problem:
1. Turn the key in the ignition on -> off 3 times and try it.
2. Push either the luck or unlock button once within range. Then within no longer than a minute you have to put the key in the door and turn it to either unlck or lock
3. Follow vag instructions.
