Default petrol gage not working??

hi iv got a audi a4 3.0 l .....the car was driveing all ok then it just cut out and would not start..the petrol gage said it was half full .. so we throught it was the alam. once we worked out it was not the alam. we had a look at the in tank pump. and once removed you could see in to the tank and there was not a drip of petrol in there....so we put it back together and put some petrol in and it startedhappy boy. BUT now the petrol gage shows empty all the time and the computer says 0miles in the tank even when the tanks so full you can not get any more in it. is there a way of reseting it or might it be the sender on the pump please help as it driveing me nuts thanks for any help and info jamie

Defective Dash Voltage regulator (Voltage limiter) or gauge
Lost of a ground at the sending unit
Break in the wire going to the dash
On some Chryslers, the Bulkhead connector on the firewall or connector behind kick panel.

this are few common problems.

Remove the sending unit from the tank, clean the resistor element with electrical contact cleaner, and re-solder the wire that is very likely broken on the sender (that's the problem 99% of the time). Reinstall and you're good to go.
