cant see why it wouldn't fit, i've seen people put 10" ones in the side rear of the boot where those box pockets are.

personally i'd rather have a spare wheel and a boxed sub, you just gotta hope you don't get a puncture cuz 12" subs aint 5 stud and dont roll very well lol javascript:void(AddText(''))

I had a friend do this in his 2000 GTI VR6, and he was able to keep the spare tire in the well under the sub at the expense of raising the floor (he used a piece of plywood (he was goign to get a reinforced carbon fiber sheet) on little rubber feet with the regular carpet on top) 2 or 3 inchs. It was pretty easy to make too, but it took us about 4 days because I insisted that if we're putting that much effort into a sub encloseur it might as well be a decent one and it took us a few tries to get it just right.

I'd post pics to help you out, but the car was totaled on Dec. 2nd 2006

You should try it, though. Especially if you already have the sub and everything and you've got a weekend to mess around and experiment. Wood and glue are cheap, and that's pretty mcuh all you'll need to do it. The biggest problem I had was running wires, but if you plan everything out in advance you shouldn't have a problem...

Edit: Also, you can use a circular piece of plexi with a decent number of holes in it (in pretty patterns!) and then a fine brass mesh on the underside to use as a cover to protect the sub and make the setup more presentable (LEDs optional). The mesh also helps with EMI if you've got a computer or other sensitive electronics in the trunk!

Edit 2: Alright, I was looking around through some of my old pics and found some of the sub:

They are of one of the earlier revisions. There's some more there, too

I don't know what other pics are in that album as it was my friend's, so I can't be held accountable for anything strange.
