Default Crazy Radio

Don't know if anyone has experienced this but I hooked up my amp and sub and noticed that when I took the keys out of the ignition and pushed the radio, it came on. I never tried this before the install so I do not know if it was a pre-existing condition. All I know is that it can't be good. If I turn the ignition off the radio turns off like normal. If you touch the radio with the key out, then it comes to life again???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

IIRC -- a big IF -- that's a feature. For some predefined length of time after you turn off the ignition, the radio will still turn on. 20 seconds? A minute?

I believe that this is perfectly normal. I noticed it the other day also. I don't know how long it stays on, or if it has a timer at all. It is at least 10 min because I made it through a couple songs.

I think that I'll check out the wondows/sunroof to see if they operate without the ignition on....

The manual for the Symphony radio in my '02 A4 says the radio will run for up to 1 hour with the ignition off.

I guess this is Audi's answer to not having an "accessory" position on the ignition key to play the radio without turning on the ignition.

Yes, this is normal and expected. The radio will operate if the car is unlocked - avoids the need to leave the keys in if all you want to do is have some tunes when you're hanging out.
