Volts to D+ terminal in alternator

Volts to D+ terminal in alternator
I have a 1998 audi a6 and I was wondering if anyone knew what the reading should be for volts to the D+ terminal on the alternator. Currently I am getting 1.5 and I really think it should be 12 volts which could be what is causing my problem. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
