Apparently there are DYI out there for different cars (using foam to compress the ribbon connection) but it may be car/model specific. I saw this on mbworld.org (I am not that smart!).

This could be considered safety. Pixels go out and you cant read certain information that could be very important. Not only would a recall make a lot of people happy, but on Audi's part it could get them a lot of attention and make them some big $. If they take care of their customers and keep them happy, a lot more people would buy their cars. The biggest deal breakers for Audi's are the need for a lot of service and repairs, and the cost of them.
