1997 A6 - heating problem
Recently bought a very clean 1997 Audi A6 2.8. Only problem I have found is that no matter what temp I have the climate control set at it refuses to pump out anything other than cool air.
The car appears to run very cool, rarely seeing the gauge move above 70 degrees, even when sat in traffic.
The car uses no water so I'm hoping for some advice as to where I can start looking, I'm thinking that the car running cool and very little heat coming from the heater are connected.

It sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, because of the low engine temp. Feel the hoses that are going in and out of the heater core. they should be hot to the touch for it to even want to work right. If it is the thermostat, think about doing the timing belt job. The t-stat is located behind all the TB stuff and it is a imortant job to have behind you. The A6 has a lot of room between the engine and the radiator, so the TB job can be done without moving the front end out. It's a good 2-4 hour job that needs to be done if the car has 100k or more and still has the origional stuff.
