2.8 V6 abnormally loud
The other morning I started my 1995 90 (2.8 V6) and just completely out of nowhere it didn't sound right. It was a lot louder than normal, so I opened the hood and it seemed like it was coming from the front of the engine somewhere. It sounds like a very loud whirring or whizzing or a combination of both. When you shut the engine of you hear a very loud whir that sounds just like something is winding down, like when you shut a jet engine off. So looking over my engine, I noticed one of the breather hoses is broken, I just got done replacing that now thinking maybe that was causing the engine to be extra loud but it didn't fix anything. I let it run for a few minutes more today and I started to smell something burning, it was a vague smell but coming on harder the longer it ran. I didn't want to push my luck so I shut it off pretty quickly. The smell was coming from the front of the engine.
I hope it's not a roller for the timing belt starting to seize. The idiot PO had the timing belt and water pump replaced last summer, but according to him the mechanic said "the rollers looked and spun ok so we didn't replace them". Yeah, left me scratching my head too. Otherwise what's up front that could be making a loud noise and burning? Thanks for the help.

RE: 2.8 V6 abnormally loud
I did have some problems with the starter during the winter. I'd turn the key, nothing would happen for about 3 seconds then all of a sudden i'd feel this huge clunk and it would turn over. It warmed up and the problem went away so I didn't think anymore of it.
Any other ideas?
