2000 A6 trunk won't open with key, help!
Hello All,
I just purchased a 2000 A6 and I'm having trouble opening the trunk.
I only have one key without any buttons on it. It opens the doors and starts the car but it won't go into the trunk keyhole. I can unlock the trunk by turning the key in the drivers side door twice and pushing up on the trunk handle.
Why won't the key fit the trunk keyhole? Is there usually a separate key for the trunk? Also is there no trunk release button inside somewhere?
Thank you!

I'll try to help you as best as I can but I'm new to audi also. I only know it's frustrating waiting the 1-7 day wait time to get any responses to the tech section on this forum.
There's no trunk release button on my 99 so probably not on your 00 either. The only way you can open the trunk is by unlocking it first in the front and pushing the button to open it in the back. I hear it's about 180 for a new key from Audi and since you have a 2000 it's best to do it there because there is some extra programming involved for some of the security features on the 99.5+ models.
Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.. if anyone actually looks at the tech section. This is based off of information i've read over the last 3-4 weeks.
.. don't get me wrong, the forum is great for their archived tech threads and also if you like to compete for the last person to post in a thread in the off topic section.
100% of my open threads that have questions have 0 responses so best of luck!

Maybe it is a valet key? Some cars have them. Usually won't work in the glove box too IIRC. It is by design so you can secure stuff when parked by valet or left with others.
I don't have this particular car so I am just guessing. Try Googling something like "valet key audi a6' etc
