Default A4 Heater core replacement

Hi all,

I'm a newbie. Didn't find any heater core info in the FAQ section. I have a 2001 A4 Avant 2.8 with 120,0000 miles. Heater is blowing cold air. Dealer says it needs the heater core replaced, the entire dashboard hast to come apart, and the price is 1600 due to extensive dash labor. Yikes! Anyone out there with some knowledge on this problem?

Thanks!

flush the system first and make sure the heating is set to hot otherwise you wont clear the heater matrix ( why do they always say the core is bad $$$$$ ) cash monkeys and typical when chances are it just needs clearing

i'd check the heater valve that controls flow to the heater core...

heater core problems are generally not heating ones... but leaking ones...

i'd close off the system and flush just the core itself...
