Default Audi A4 2012 1.8t manual

Hi guys
I have an Audi that cranks only. When you push key to start it takes time to crank, sometimes it doesn't even crank.History of the car - Bought the car accident damaged. Everything is intact now . But starting is the problem.

Will it drift start? You know, turn the key on, get it rolling and dump the clutch in 2nd. Do you hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds when you do turn the ignition on?

Do you mean to push start? I haven't tried it.When I start it makes a click noise sometimes it cranks for a couple of seconds then it stops.

yeah.. Push start it. if it runs, then the problem is with the starter or the battery (or both). Could also be the ignition switch but it's not that likely. But also check for the sound of the fuel pump running for a second or two when you turn the ignition on. The pump should come on briefly to prime the fuel system and will go off. It will not come back on again until the ECU sees the engine turning over. But the click you refer to is the classic starter/battery issue. Like I said, could be one or both. Theses cars have extensive electrical systems in them and the batteries for these things need to be in top shape to make them crank and run. If a battery is not charged or retaining a good charge, it cannot supply the required power to run all the electrics and crank the starter at the same time. The starter is by far the biggest demand for the battery. Sometimes the battery might have enough juice to turn the starter over but nothing left over to run the ECU and fuel pump..... If you can push start it, it takes the demand off the battery to crank that starter, freeing up the power to run the car.

Hi

I managed to get it to crank with the key. But still don't start. Looks like fuel pressure is too low as well.

Low fuel pressure will do it. Could be a fuel pump or the filter is clogged.
