Car Stalling after start!
Driving home from work my car stalled about 15 feet from the driveway so I pushed the cluch in and coasted it into the driveway. At the time I thought nothing of it, but later that day when I went to start it, it did not start.
Just bought this 1987 Audi 4000 Coupe GT about a month ago, guy said he had the fuel pump replaced not too long ago... So the car was trying to crank, but wasnt turning over. I knew it sounded like a fuel problem, so I started from the source. Filters are cheaper than pumps, so I got one and replaced it. The pump also works fine. Now the car will start if the accelorator pedal is down part way, but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal the car stalls out.
Idle problem? Still not getting enough fuel?
Please help.

Definatly look into the air side of the equation. You know you have spark and fuel considering it will run. You proably have a blocked idle air passage or a failed idle air control unit.
first make sure you have fuel and spark.
need tips on how to check?
second check the air hosese for any ripps or punchares. becouse of that car will NOT start. Or might catch on (cold start injector) But will stall after about 3 seconds of running.
If the leak is small it will also wont alow the car run. or run very very poorly

Would that also cause idle surge, because previous to the stalling situation, it had on and off idle surge. I would love any tips that you could give me, I'm completely new at the whole audi thing and they are so different from other cars. By air hoses do you mean the filter to intake hose and ones attached? I checked the idle air control valve, it seemed to be working fine, then again, I may not have been checking properly. It was doing as you describe and catching on, but after a few seconds of running would died out to cranking only again. Thanks so much for the info.
