Default Clutch Replacement on a 99 A4 2.8 Quattro

I read all the related posts after doing a search but I have one major question that I didn't see in any of the posts. The best non-stealership garage around here that specializes in Audi work told me that the most efficient way to replace the clutch in my A4 is to remove the engine which seems a little extreme to me. Regardless, as far as me doing it myself, well that's pretty much out of the question simply because it would end up in a shop sooner or later anyway. Can anyone that had the job done please tell me if the motor was taken out of the car or was it done from down below? Also, how do most garages feel about me bringing in my own parts? I know they make a ton of money on parts and I just can't afford that kind of profit on their end. Any and all advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,
Ed

First you dont have to remove the motor, all you gotta do is get under the car you slide the tranny back and you can get the clutch in there its not too hard, and If your gunna buy the clutch get a decent one like stage two or more, you should check out south bent clutched they are really good

It would actually depend on the store you'll be transacting business with. Yet, there are really stores that accept such kind of deal. So you only have to pay for the labor. You can try new replacements from Partstrain, especially if you really don't want to spend that much.
