Default Clutch or trany?

Just yesteday my Audi A4 1.8 turbo Quattro (2000 yr) 100k miles (Manuel trany).. Started acting up. I am not sure what the problem is but when I go into 1st and 2gear it studers a little bit and power not there then of 3rd and 4th gear when i step on it the RPM shoot up but the car will not go. I have to let up on the gas pedal and it slowly picks up speed. At 60mph I try getting speed and it does the same thingthe Rpm just shoot up but car will not pick up speed. Some one please help I called dealler and they told me it would be $1,375 to replace cluth. Does anyone know what the problem might be and if there anything les expensive to fix it.

Default RE: Clutch or trany?

i thought my clutch and tranny were both chewed and almost fell out of the car when it turned out to be spark plug wires. just a thought and i am wishing you good luck that maybe it is an inexpensive fix. my car was hesitating like that and the tranny doesn't know what to do. like it was confused.
