Cold air intake help
Hello I have a 2004 A6 3.0 Quattro and I was thinking of installing a cold air intake. First of all will this give me a def. boost in performance from the stock version? Also the intake im looking at has the adapter to put the MAF sensor on but what is that plastic long tube that come out of the stock air box and proceeds underneath? I didnt look very closely to see where it goes but If i put a cold air intake do I just detach this? Im just wondering if I should even mess with it in the first place.
Thanks
Jason

my air intake kit came with a small filter that went on the end of that hose. the secondary air pump put air into the exhaust for the first few minutes the car is running, and then it shuts off. i put the filter on the tube and then secured the hose. hope this helps.
The SAP draws air from the airbox into it through that tube, and then pumps it out to the engine. You put a small breather filter on the tube (you can get them at AutoZone for less than $10) so that you don't suck up dust and dirt into the SAP.
You'll see very little, if any, gain from the intake. Even the turbo engines see very little gain - the OEM system is very efficient. You will, however, get a nice induction roar under throttle above 4000 RPM and you'll never buy another air filter, so there are defnite benefits to having one.
