Default engine question

I have a 1999 A6 2.8Q. Unfortunately it has been overheating a lot, I change thermostat and water pump, fans are ok and radiator has bein flush, but still after months it blew a hose and two expantion tank, my mechanic which is turstfull suggest that coud be a problem in the head gasket, I must point that avery time I lose the expantion tank lid, there is a noticeable amout of preasure.
Now my mech has a 2004 3.0 engine from a A4 with 10K miles agaist my 92K miles, all it needs is a new oil pan and oil pump, would it be wise to change it, woult it fit the transmition? any body has any realistic coment about it?
Thanks

Default RE: engine question

well, it would fit, but there is like ECU and PCM and wiring harnest, alot of head ache. stupid question, but did you change the preasure cap? if head gasket is bad, you would get water in your oil when car does not run. and oil in your water when it does run. also you would have white smoke from your tail pipe almost all the time, and other cars would not. and you do a compresion check to find out if the engine leaks. if no oil present and probably head gasket leaks on the cylinders, then you would have low compresion, and white smoke and wierd deposit on the spark plugs. rarelly that that would happen though. does your return tube into the expension tank pushing fluid back? then it could be the rad. most likely I blame the cap.
