Thats all good and all, im just saying that i can't let that statement fly because its wrong, just changing the oil filter will cause you problems down the road, trust me.

does this apply to the old 5 cylinder engines as the garage i use has jus started using fully synthetic in my audi. cheers

No, just 1.8T motors. The audi TT 1.8T motors don't even apply, its a faulty design in the A4 1.8T's which causes low oil pressure, most of the time its not even sludge! Just build up on the oil pick up tube.
