I just got an APR chip upgrade from NGP on my 2001 Audi A4 1.8t. When im driving hard and the turbo is spooling, I hear a humming sound from the engine bay (drivers side). Im sure it has something to do with my boost. I didn’t purchase an aftermarket diverter valve yet so I think that may have something to do with it. Sorry if I cant explain in more technical terms. Thanks for your help.

 

well, if you didnt get a new dv, that thing will die pretty quickly with the added boost. also i'd suggest getting a boost gauge next. a boost gauge really is a must once you start modding the 1.8t

yeah i figured the stock diverter was crap. I agree with the boost gauge. I guess ill be ordering the R1 DV on friday. Thanks a lot for your help man.

 

yea, check the DV, dont not get a BOV or we will all group smack you. also check rubber fittings and connectors and the hoses, if theres a leak of some sort there it can make noises

 

Got the new R1 DV on there today.... but the wiffling sound is still there. It has to be a boost leak. I would like to locate it myself, but Im not sure where to look. Im gonna check all the hoses and tighten them. I have no idea where to start but well see what happens.
