Default The heater noise

Hey guys,

Since it's getting pretty cold in Southern California, I recently need to use the heater in my A4.

One thing I found that annoyed the heck out of me is the noise the heater makes everytime it's turned on.

The noise is coming from the right side of the dashboard (It's a screeking noise that sounds like a bird/cricket).

I searched the forum but could not find the way to fix it.

Has anyone here able to fix this problem on their own or do I need to take it to the dealer?

Thank you in advance.

When was the last time you used the fan (AC or just the Fan)? If it has been a while you may want to gain access to the fan and lube the bearings or check and see if something got into the fan whether it was alive when it did or maybe a leaf fell in.

to get to the blower motor you have to remove the glove box to gain access, you can only gain access to the fan blades through the plastic cover where the pollen filter is ( below the windshield wipers ) you will probably find a lot of leaves in there

I got the car about couple of months ago.

I use the AC every single day so the sound goes off only when the heater is on.

Avant, I got a little confussed from your instructions. Are you saying I should clean/lube the part from inside the glove box or the part inside the pollen filter.

Also thanks for the quick responses.

He is saying that if there are leaves you can clean them out from accessing them through the pollen filter from under the windshield wipers. to get to the blower motor you have to remove the glove box.

the thing is that you use the fan all the time so it is probably leaves in the fan blades.

Thank you for clearing that puremskirby.

I will start working on it soon as I find the time.

You should read this. It is a great write up on the blower behind the glove box. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec132.shtml
