Help! Bad whine coming from the front of the S4
Hello guys,
I think I have the same problem, but under slighty other circumstances.
CAR: A6 1998, AEB, FWD, manual, 110k
1 The AC OFF (ECON). there is no "whine" and small vibration (let's say normal under the circumstances thatI have to change the injectors).
2 The AC ON ...well the sound startsas a little "whine", but with RPMs it is gettin louder and louder (the sound isa throaty sound...somehow ), and at idle there are some serious vibrations felt in theseats, gear **** etc, and also a loss of power at low RPMs. The sound is soannoing/present thatwhen I turn the AC off I am getting a "...oo... now I can turn down a little the radio volume", and the ECON button acts like the "old-school" computer turbo button
) - when I press it there is instantly a new car that I have: much responsive, lag free, more power. 10k ago I changedthe ball bearing located in front of the car (the lowest one, and the mechanic told me that this is the source of the "whine" sound... the lower position of the ball bearing makes it vulnerable to water)...but still no effect.
The histoy of the problem is also strange... when in winter there is a little or no sound, but when in summer there is this annoing "whine".
I dont understand the connection between the AC and the thermo-clutch (sry for my bad english) of the main radiator fan because you guys (auditech79, and GeilKyle2) said that there is "probably the clutch fan"
Thank you,

Thank you,
his problem sounded more like an issue with the viscious fan clutch, by the way you keep saying everytime the a/c turns on I have issues, I would deffinatly be looking more at the compressor.
Hello GeilKyle2,
Idont know where the AC compressor is located, but one thing is for sure it makes a lot of cold air and no other problems. Can you please give me a clue about the location, and some workaround ? also a dealer for an AC compressor / price would be highly appreciated.
Thank you guy(s),
Alex
