Manual Tranny swap

Manual Tranny swap
Alright,
I currently have a 97 Audi A4 2.8Q Auto. The transmission is making a bad knocking noise at the rear when in gear. I think is has something to do with the rear output or center diff. Either way I am pretty sure the transmission is toast (and probably not servicable or rebuildable). I can pick up a used auto transmission for around $1000-1600. Here is my question, is it possible to swap out the transmission for a manual. I realize I would need the entire clutch system including hydraulics, Clutch pedal, new brake pedal, shifter, shift likage Manual Flywheel. However I wondered if the manual transmission will fit up to the auto halfshafts, and rear driveshaft, or would I need to get those as well? Also does the manual and auto transmission have different mounts? I was wondering if anyone had ever attempted to do this before. Any information would help. I could really use a FSM, if anyone has one on cd, some pdfs would be helpful as well.

RE: Manual Tranny swap
Hi audi_a4_guy welcome to the forums.. Unfortunately its going to cost way to much to do a swap.. too much involved with the swapping of transmissions. I highly suggest taking the car to a shop and making sure that the tranny is the problem, because It would really suck to do all the work on putting a new one in, and having the same problem..
