In Need of Advice
2002 / Audi A4 / Avant / Quattro / 3.0 B6 / 110,000 Miles
Symptoms:
1.) On a cold start the engine fires up, the RPMS start at 1200 for about 1 second and then they drop to 600. The RPMS go up and down between 600 - 800 for about 5 seconds eventually reaching equilibrium at 800 and everything is fine. During this time the car exhibits a minor shake. If I give the car a little gas the RPMS equalize faster. This issue normally happens on a cold start in the morning and then it is fine the rest of the day.
2.) After driving the car for some miles, if I stop the car and place it in PARK the RPMS drop to 600 and rise to 800 and drop to 6 and rise to 8 repeatedly. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE. While the symptom is occurring there is a breathing sound in accordance coming from somewhere near the vacuum line bracket on top of the engine. I took a close look at all the vacuum lines coming off that top bracket and none of them are leaking or broken. I still haven’t been able to pin point where the sound is coming from. If I place the car back in DRIVE the symptom subsides and it feels as if it was never there.
The car has new plugs, new coils, new oil (liquid molly 5w40), new MAF sensor that I put in to fix a different issue, new timing belt, new serp belt, new serp belt tensioner, new water pump, new filters.
Thoughts?
