Normally I change oil every 3k miles. I have a new car, coming up on 3k miles. Maintenance book says oil change at 5k. I would imagine that is safe, but just wondering if there were different opinions on when the first oil change should take place.

5k miles is fine. I think I will go to a 3k mile interval after I hit 10k miles.

 

i think its all about the oil you run. i like amsoil high milage and it comes out pretty clean after 10k. and always use the factory filter

 

The dealer takes care of it for 4 years or 50K mi.

5,15,25,35,45K changes are free.

Check your owner's manual for ACEA standards required.

 

The books interval is just fine, but go with whatever makes you feel gud about your engine. If 3K is your *default* then go @ 3K. If you're comfortable with a 5kinterval, as suggested in your manual, go with that. I wudn't exceed what the manual suggests, but if ya wants ta doit sooner...[8D]
