Default Is this normal for most Audis?

Hi there! I am new to the AudiForums and I am actually very new to Audi vehicles in general so I am hoping you all can help me out....I got a 2013 A5 (automatic transmission, premium plus) about 4 weeks ago. Everything about the car is fantastic, except for one thing that is really putting a damper on my "new car high"....when the vehicle has been parked for maybe 10 mins plus, and I start the engine, at initial acceleration, it makes this clicking vibration that you can hear and also feel through the acceleration pedal. It almost sounds like something is clicking into place...Now it only does this one time and it will never do it again so long as the car is on, but if I park the car, go shopping and come back, it will do it again upon initial acceleration.

I've googled the issue and read a few forum posts about it possibly being the ABS system starting up....I've called the Audi dealership where I purchased the car and they told me it was the Quattro system kicking in. I then took the car into my local Audi service department (I purchased the car out of town) and the service advisor drove the car with me and he felt the clicking vibration so they kept the car overnight to have their techs check it out. They gave me a loaner 2013 Q5 for the day and that too, did the same exact thing. Now I am thinking that it is just an Audi thing, but I find it strange that the service advisor did not know anything about it. If it was that common, wouldn't they just say so? They told me they could not get the vehicle to recreate the sound (which is bull because it does it EVERY single time I start the car). I had the technician ride in the car with me and when he heard it, he told me it was the compressor kicking in. He said when I have the AC on when the car starts, it will make that noise/vibration. Thinking that this is a brand new car and that Audi has a good reputation...I took his word for it and took my car home. The past week, I have started my car without the AC off so that the compressor would not have to be on upon initial acceleration.....and it still makes that sound so I really have no idea what this is.....

Being that the Q5 did the same thing, do the rest of you notice this sound/vibration with your vehicles? Is this a normal Audi thing? Like I said, I am new to Audi. I have been a Honda/Acura owner all of my life so jumping to another company was a big thing for me! And the thought that there is something wrong with my brand new car churns my stomach!!! Please tell me this is a normal sound with Audi and it is nothing I should be worried about....Any advice/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks...I appreciate your responses! I have an appointment next Monday to take it back in (sucks that a brand new car needs to go to the shop so soon!) but I will let you all know what I find out....stay tuned! *cue dramatic music!* lol

It also sounds like its doing a throttle body adaption which makes no sense that only needs yo done after pulling a specific sensor or removing the throttle body and putting it back. And only needs to done once

Ok, I got the car back from the service department today and they said that the sound/vibration is normal. They said that it is the ABS system check. They gave me a loaner A4 which did the same thing, and they let me test drive another new A5, which also did the same thing. They said they called the corporate engineering offices and confirmed that it is the ABS system check....so, I guess for now, I will just accept this as a normal "Audi thing!" Thanks everyone for your input, I appreciate it!

the TBA would only perform if the car is off but ignition in on position.. cannot do it while car is running.

glad to hear the OP found out what it was.
