Default PLEASE HELP!! POWER STEERING ISSUE

NOTE FROM DEALER:

58663 1.0 hrs diag found resevoir almost emply and steering rack o rings leaking needs new steering rack fluid and seals. estimate $1580.40

You got to be kidding me!!!! I cant afford to pay this much money to get this fixed. If I continue to fill up my power steering resevior every week will any further damage be caused? Also, is anyone in her from SoCal?? And know their cars?? I will be more than willing to pay someone to fix this for me than the dealer. I can get the part for $500 but dropping over a grand in labor is just stupid. Not to mention I will have to get an alligment after this is done.. PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!!!! Im in no condition to spend this money right now as my daughter's birthday is next week

you wotn cause further damage but you need to use mineral hydralic fluid which is about $18 a quart. if your mechanically minded you can do it yourself. as far as i know there is no fix for leaking racks but if you really want to take you chances i guess you can fill up with power steering stop leak stuff and hope it swell the seal enoguh where it stop leaking, then just run with it or drain and flush with 11s fluid. just my 2 cents.

You can get a remanufactured steering rack for $350 from:

www.carsteering.com

Labor should be around $550.
