Some Questions about general Maintenance
I have my Eyes on a 2001 A6 2.7T with 75,000 miles on it for $10,000 from a dealer
my dad WILL NOT SHUT UP about how you absolutely have to take it to a dealer to change the oil and it will cost $500 each time and the places that service them arent open on the weekends and I will have to rent a car to be able to get to work and any time anything breaks it will be 600% more expencive for parts
and after this he suggests I buy a Jetta...
I have a good job now, and I make good money, I have been wanting an audi FOR A LONG TIME
can anyone prove him wrong so I can shut him up?
I am tired of hearing from people I should just buy a Honda Civic to save money, but screw that, I want this car and am willing to spend the money it takes for it

the parts aren't the cheapest in the world, but as for the maintenance, it's not hard at all. i found a place in my area that does it cheaper than the dealer and cheaper and throws in a pretty good carwash for less than the oil and oil filter and me doing it myself! so it's not impossible to find a place to do it for you and i haven't had some SERIOUS problems except for my timing belt. but in my 2000 A4 1.8T's defense, it's previous owner never took care of it so now i have to patch the poor thing up. take care of it, and it'll take care of you. i got a lemon and i STILL love this thing. trust me, you'll find A LOT more people on here that LOVE their cars and wouldn't give them up for anything! it might be different for the car you're looking at but treat it good and it'll be good. but also, it won't be a bad idea to have some cash saved up to fall back on just in case something DOES happen
i would want to know if the timing belt has been replaced already...
cause if not... at 75k... your looking at 1800.00 to 2400.00 to have it replace.
on top of that... cam tensioner seals leak on every 2.7 motor. also a very expensive job usually going bad around the 60k to 120k time frame.
the 2.7 is probably the second best motor audi has made yet for production models. these two issues are typically the only commonissues w/ it... and one is just preventative maintenance.
in comparasion to a jetta. well there is none. the a6has a luxury standard above it plus the 2.7 performance type engine. i've driven both and would not evenconsider the jetta
i have a good friend w/ an 05 jetta. she has had the engine replaced 3 times already.
i'm not being biased because i work for audi...i own a 91 toyota i wouldn't trade for the world.

People buy Jettas or Civics if they want reliability and take their car to the dealer for maintenance and repairs.
People buy Audis becasue they are enthusiasts. First big difference right there.
Chances are you will need to do work on your Audi, so you should prepare yourself by getting some basic tools, the Bentley manusl for your Audi, and at a minimum a VAG cable on eBay. You will save a bunch of money and will feel the reward of douing the job yourself.
Just don't go overboard on mods, but get the minimum upgrades required, such as 2 DVs, a Samco TBB, and get ready to change your own oil and filters.

You didn't mention if you could wrench. If not the your cost of ownership will go through the roof.
