spick n span brakes
I'm curious about cleaning of the caliper mounts. How should i clean these and other brake components to ensure i do an A+ job. I've been in there once recently and i want to make it my last time for a while. One of my pads isn't seated right so i'm going back in, while i'm there i want to properly clean the hangers. Sandblasting? Wire Brush? What do ya'll do with this? Vermont car...
Agreed, use brake cleaner and/or Simple Green and a wire brush and it'll clean it up as well as can be done without sandblasting. Afterward, since you're in there, might as well paint them up too (black or silver to me looks the best - makes it noticeable but not too much so) - hit 'em with high temp paint and high temp clearcoat and it can help the brake dust not stick so much as well.
If they are not seating properly check to make sure the caliper pins move freely inside the rubber accordion boots, they can be pulled right out of the rubber boot if they need greased (I generally use bearing grease or antiseize to grease them) and make sure the boots are properly reinstalled on pin when finished.
