I just purchased a used '00 manual A4 Quattro. Awesome ride, only 73,000 miles. However, I have just noticed a slight *grinding* sound. It seems to only occur in 1st and 2nd gear (approximately every 30 seconds) until I rev over 2,000 RPM or shift to 3rd +. When it makes the grinding sound, I can faintly feel it through the stick shift too. Any ideas?? I'm thinking that it may be the clutch if not the transmission

Well im thinking that you hoped it was just a a clutch problem, but it sounds like its a synchro problem inside the tranny. Unfortunately noises are hard to diagnose through a computer so if its a complex grinding the only person that can diagnose it is a technician.
