Default Transmission Problems

I have an Audi A6 1998 Quatro 2.8 Automatic Transmission. The transmission hesitates or vibrates when going in and out of gear. Had transmission fluid partially replaced. It was of no help. Car has 82,000 miles on it. Do I need a new transmission? If so how much does that cost?

Have the codes read with a VAG-COM or an Audi code reader.

when the fluid was changed it is very important to take a close look into the fluid, checking for metal flakes... there should also be a small magnet in the pan that will collect metal shavings... depending on the condition of the fluid and the amount if any of shavings would help indicate if the trany needed replacement.... who changed the fluid?

^+1 and if some metal chipped off or got in there somehow it could have made its way into the clutches that could be whats vibrating when it shifts or if theres something in the in the valve body that could be the cause of the hesitation... it could just need to be taken apart and cleaned or you may need to just get a rebuilt kit. if you dont want to or dont know how to do that yourself im sure you can find a shop to do it

im not saying thats what it is for sure just my guesses
