Hi I have just got and Audi A4 and the passanger window is not working right......let me explain...it goes down ...but will not go up ? so i have disconected it untill i can find out what wrong with it.....My friend seems to think it could be a relay broken and if so where are they ???

any help on this would be great

Type of car wouuld be helpfull. If its an a6 you probably need window guides. Very common problem. Do a search on that and yo ushould find a how to. Otherwise you may have a switch issue. Same problem with both switchs? Could also be a failed regulator or motor. Do you hear the motor click when you attempt to raise it?

 

i am sure i said it was an AUDI A4 anyway we thought it could be a switch problem but both at the same time !! and yes we can hear it "click" when we try to raise the window..............

Sorry didnt see the a4. The click indicates that the switchs are ok and telling the motor to operate. Your best bet is to pull the door panel and pull the motor out. If the motor operates when it is removed from the regulator you need a new regulator. If it still just clicks and doesnt spin replace the motor.

 

ok thanks for that but what and where is the regulator .... and when I took the motor out and tried it it worked but only one way it would not go the other way as in to put the window up ???

 

The regulator is the thing the window motor goes into. It is the cables and rails the motor control to move the window up and down. Thats really strange that the motor only goes one direction. It should go both. Does the window go up and down smothly with the motor removed/controled manually by physically raising and lowering the glass? If it does id say you need a new motor. If it seems to bind up in certain spots replace the regulator assembly.
