Xenon Problems!
Hi everyone, I posted about 3 weeks ago asking about how to change a bulb for my OEM Xenon's (2003 A4 1.8T Quattro) You all were a great help but I am still having some problems with the lights. I took the old D1S out and it looked blown so I obviously wanted to replace it. My freind gave me a goodused D1R bulb to try before I spent the money on a brand new D1S. I removed the ceramic paint off the D1R bulb very carefully with a razor blade (worked like a champ!) I put it in the car and it did not turn on, when I removed it, it looked as though it was burnt out just like my original D1S. My question is, should I put a brand new bulb in and risk it blowing? Is it possible that I have a problem with the Valeo ballast? (Although I thought that the ballast was built into a D1 type bulb, can anyone clear this up) And last, has anyone ever have these same problems with their factory Xenons??? Any help would be great! Thank you all so much
While i've never had this problem,
This sound like one of those times taking it into a dealership is a good thing.
If they blow it cause you need a new ballast or some sort of adjustment there not going to stick you with the cost of the blown blub. On top of the fact ther OEM Xenon's the've have the bulb(s) you need.
Just my 2 cents,

That isn't a common problem with our zenon bulbs, the bulbs take a very long time to burn out and touching them doesn't hurt them like a halogen bulb. The igniter or ballast is commonly is what the problem is when the intermintently come on and off but blowing out the bulb is not something i have ever seen. I would say it has a wiring short, or something is wrong with the ballast.
Try borrowing a ballast from a friends car and plug it into your electronics and see if it works.

Check this site and make sure you don't need D2S bulbs.

Thank-you all for your help! I am going to get the 2 new bulbs and see how that works out because I was at the dealership today to pick up some wiper blades and they quoted me $597.00 for a new ballast (Can you say "stealership!!!") They also wanted $220.00 forone bulbbut I already have a hook-up on those thanks again!
