Brake Light comes on Randomly
#3
I have a 2001 A6 and I have a brake light issue, too. My brake light stays on. I've replaced the brake light switch but it didn't fix the light problem. The main reason I changed the brake light switch is because the ABS and ETC light would come when the car was placed in gear. The other thing I noticed was the car was very sluggish at take off, but once the car was at highway speed, the car was fine. The new brake light switch resolved the acceleration problem and the two lights, but the brake light still remains on. Any thoughts?

The 1st thing to check, with a random/intermittent brake liklight e is both pad/rotor wear, AND fluid level. In THAT order. When the pads and/or rotors are very well worn the fluid level in the reservoir WILL drop, as the fliud moves to replace the empty volume behind teh pads because teh pads now have to push farther out (or, in, depending on how you want to look at it, to make contact with the rotor.
If the pads/rotors aren't excessively worn, fluid level is teh next culprit. If this is true, and presuming no excessive pad/rotor wear, you may have a leak in your brake system, somewhere.
If neither of those is the culprit, you probably have a glitch in the matrix. Morpheus & Neo can... Sorry, I meant an electrical glitch. Tracing those is equal parts science and magick, and too deep to go into, here. You either know how, or you have not YET been struck by lightening.
Hope that helps.
